Mountain Drive

We didn't have time to pick apples but stopped to buy a gallon of cider and a bag of Jonagold apples anyway.  Jonagold apples are sweet and have a thin skin. Delicious. With a name like Eve, I'm always tempted and yes, we bought an apple pie too but they used Granny Smith apples for the pie! SOUR!!
Pie should be sweet like you, my fine friends. Hope you are all having a great day!

It was a gorgeous day for a drive through our local mountains. Over eighty degrees, sunshine and a mild breeze that cooled to seventy degrees at the 8,000 foot level.

Could this really be the end of October?
I missed trees while living in the desert.

Have you ever picked apples in an orchard? What is your favorite apple?
Gala, Fuji and Macintosh are also delicious. Do you like Granny Smith Apples?

  1. Galas are my current obsession and they are so fresh and delicious in my town - the orchard is just a few kilometres away. I've never picked them myself, but I have made hard cider out of cold pressed apple cider!

Granny Smith are my least fave next to Red Delicious. That's the worst choice for a pie! Looks like a lovely day. Hope you are well! :)

  2. What a view!
I like Golden Delicious and Gala. Not into sour either.

  3. I don't know what kind of apples they are, but I like the ones that are blood red and not as round as the lighter colored red apples.

    1. Just like in Snow White and the Seven Little Guys. I bet you love the mystery of a blood red apple. Aren't those called Red Delicious?

  4. Gorgeous views, Eve!

My cousin took over the orchard his parents started after my uncle died, and still does it. I like Mackintoshes the most.

    1. I used to love MacIntosh, then I went to Gala and now I've discovered this Jonagold.

  5. I agree. Pie should be sweet!

Every autumn here, a local candy store, Merb's, sells Bionic Apples. They're like caramel apples but way better.

    Beautiful pics!

    1. Well that means you might have an excuse for a road-trip up North?

  8. Hi Eve, many times! The farm I lived on when I was a little girl had an apple orchard and a pear orchard. I loved picking the apples and packing them in crates ready to go off to market. I was probably the youngest apple picker/packer there so got very spoilt by all the ‘grown ups’. I don’t think my favourite apple is available any more. It was an old-fashioned variety called ‘Fortune’ just thinking about them makes my mouth water. I love your pictures, what a perfect October day.

  9. It really was a beautiful day for a trip to the mountains. Can't believe I actually wore long pants, tennis shoes and brought a jacket. The weather warranted a spring dress....
